The 4 Purposes
At the heart of the new curriculum are the 4 Key Purposes. They will be the starting point for all decisions on the content and experiences developed as part of the curriculum to support all children to be:
To support our pupils here at Hendre Juniors in their understanding of the new curriculum we have created a characters for each of the 4 Purposes, the children decided what these characters should look like and descriptions for each of their personalities. We wanted the children to lead on the development of these characters as these characters demonstrate the characteristics we want the children to obtain as they learn and grow in Wales.

Healthy, confident individuals, ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society.
Healthy Harry, as you can guess, loves sport and fruit. He doesn’t like coming first but when he does he feels proud. The reason he doesn’t like coming first is because he wants to give other people a chance of winning. Harry is inspiring to others because a little girl who hated sport now loves it because of Harry; she is now nearly as fast as him. Harry also loves school. He is one of the kindest children in his whole class. He loves doing PE with his friends and teachers. Harry is a nice child to be around, so if you get a chance of meeting him, why don’t you be his friend and play some sport with him? Harry lives by the phrase “no pain, no gain.”
Confident Claire lives up to her name by being confident (obviously), brave, outgoing and kind. She behaves very well in school, gets good marks and is very smart. She ALWAYS puts her hand up in class answering every question that she can, everyday. How does she inspire people? Well, she mainly inspires people to come out of their shell and speak up. She is special because she is never afraid to say what she wants to say. She loves to learn about Wales and all subjects in school. Claire lives by the proverb “you can achieve anything if you put your mind to it.”
